Book Ghostwriting Explained: A Book Writing Method Built on the STORIES Framework

Table of Contents

You have the stories. You just do not have the time to write them down.

Most clients start with more material than they realize. Blog posts, keynote talks, client testimonials, old notes, even a partial draft sitting in a Google Doc all count as a head start, not a distraction. Ghostwriting is not about starting from a blank page. It is about organizing what you already have and filling in the gaps.

That is the exact gap book ghostwriting fills, and it is not a random process. Every ghostwriting project at Agency Content Writer runs through the same seven-stage STORIES Framework I use on my own memoir, so you always know what stage your book is in and what comes next.

When I work as your ghostwriter, we write the book together. It is your vision, your voice, and your story from cover to cover. The only trace of me is a short note inside the cover crediting my name and business, which lets me promote your finished book through Amazon and other publishing partners.

We meet on a set cadence, usually weekly, with a clear agenda built around one chapter at a time. I bring specific questions, you talk through the chapter, and I take that transcript and turn it into the actual content for that part of your book. It is literally your words. I just work a bit of ghostwriter magic to organize the ideas and get your story out into the world. How Ghostwriting Works walks through that process step by step, including a real client story.

This guide walks through how that framework applies to ghostwriting specifically, then points you to every resource related to ghostwriting so you can find the exact answer you need.

Key Takeaways

  • We write your book together. Your vision, your voice, and any existing content you already have shape every chapter. I organize it into a finished manuscript.
  • The STORIES Framework is my process for storytelling in blogs and books. Spark, Tidying, Outlining, Running with It, Immersing, Evaluating, and Sharing guide book coaching and From Posts to Pages too.
  • Ghostwriting fits a specific situation. You need strong expertise, compelling ideas, and limited time to write, not limited ideas.

The Book Writing Method Behind Every Ghostwriting Project

It is easy to wonder what actually happens between our first conversation and a finished manuscript. Here is the book writing process step by step, exactly what it looks like, stage by stage.

  • Spark. Every project starts with the moment that will not let go, a single idea or feeling that keeps pulling you back. My own second book grew out of one sentence I said out loud at dinner.
  • Tidying. I gather everything that already exists- journals, notes, speeches, voice memos- and sort it before organizing anything into chapters. One client, a 95-year-old memoirist, brought a full year of StoryWorth prompts and decades of Toastmaster speeches. That much material is a gift, not a burden, once it gets sorted.
  • Outlining. Tidied material becomes a chapter structure once real themes start to surface. For that same client, the themes were her early life challenges, life after retirement, and travel, three sections strong enough to hold the book without forcing in every single story.
  • Running with It. Interviews become chapters here. Each weekly session typically becomes one chapter, drafted in your voice from the transcript. We go back for a follow-up session anytime a detail needs clarifying, rather than letting questions pile up until the end.
  • Immersing. Once a full draft is done, I read the manuscript at a macro level, the way a reader eventually will, looking for what still needs to move, expand, or connect. This is usually when a theme that surfaced across several interviews gets intentionally woven through the whole book instead of staying a handful of disconnected moments.
  • Evaluating. I read the manuscript at both the macro and micro level, checking that it flows and that every detail is accurate. For memoir specifically, this stage also means considering sensitive material about real people carefully, then handing the manuscript to you for a full author review.
  • Sharing. The finished manuscript, ready for an editor, publisher, or self-publishing partner, plus everything that comes after, from beta readers to marketing.

You can read the full breakdown, with more from both of these client stories, in Introducing the STORIES Framework, or see the framework applied in even more depth in How to Write a Book: A Deep Dive into the STORIES Framework.

Because the framework stays the same across every service I offer, it also gives you a clear way to compare ghostwriting against book coaching or From Posts to Pages before you decide which one fits.
